Celebrating Black History Month

By SFC Media time Fri 28 Oct Equality and Diversity

Throughout this month the club has been celebrating Black History Month, which runs from the 1st to the 31st of October.

To celebrate this important month, we spoke to some of our staff as well as Southampton FC Women’s First Team player Lexi Lloyd-Smith and Men’s First Team player Ibrahima Diallo to find out what black history month means to them, why it’s important, and what successes and challenges they have faced getting to where they are today.

This year’s theme for Black History Month is Time for Change: Action Not Words, so we also asked our staff and players what they would want the future to look like for the black community.

In the second of our two-part video series, Lloyd-Smith speaks with Jane Yeats, Active Through Football Project Officer at Saints Foundation and Ore Abiona, Marketing Manager for Southampton Football Club.

If you missed the first video with Ibrahima Diallo, click on the link below where you will also find some advice on being an ally to the black community.
