Southampton Football Club’s men’s first-team will host Champions League semi-finalists Villarreal in a high-profile friendly at St Mary’s this summer.

The fixture against Unai Emery’s team, on Saturday 30th July (3pm BST), will mark the conclusion of Saints’ pre-season programme and will form a key part of preparations for the 2022/23 Premier League campaign.

The La Liga side are coming off the back of another memorable campaign, in which they reached the final four of the Champions League, knocking out European giants Juventus and Bayern Munich before being beaten in the semi-finals by Liverpool.

That impressive run followed their Europa League triumph in the 2020/21 season, when they beat Manchester United in the final of the competition to secure the trophy.

Saints will face Villarreal ten days after returning from their training camp in Austria, during which they will face SK Austria Klagenfurt on Monday 18th July.

Details of further pre-season fixtures will be announced on southamptonfc.com in due course.

Please note that, due to the Villarreal friendly coinciding with the opening day of the EFL season, the game will be subject to the UK’s broadcast blackout restrictions, meaning we will be unable to provide a live stream of that fixture for supporters.

That means the only way to ensure you can see the match is by securing your ticket, with information to follow.
