On their way to winning the league, league cup and play-off match, Southampton FC Women scored an incredible 132 goals in 2021/22. With plenty of goals to choose from, we had a look at some of the best moments as Saints hit the back of the net.
Sophia Pharoah vs Wolves
Not only was it the goal that sealed the FA Women's National League title and sent Saints to the Championship, it was also a fantastic finish from Sophia Pharoah.
After piling on the pressure, Alice Griffiths found herself with a bit of space and delivered a pinpoint ball to the feet of Pharoah on the edge of the box, who brought it down with a deft touch, rounded the onrushing keeper and slotted the ball into the back of the net.
Sophia pharoah speaking to the Fa
for my goal, i just saw the goalkeeper outstretch a leg, so I took it round her. it was actually close in the end, their player nearly got it, but when it went in, i was over the moon
Kayla Rendell vs Ipswich Town
There's only one thing better than a last minute winner - a last minute winner scored by your goalkeeper. Add the fact that Kayla Rendell's goal was a looping header to send the FA Cup tie to penalties in the 120th minute, it had to make the list.
Despite the last minute heroics, it was the Tractor Girls who took the place in the next round after winning the penalty shootout 4-2, but Rendell's goal will still be well-remembered from the 2021/22 campaign.
Leeta Rutherford vs MK Dons
Taking inspiration from free-kick maestro James Ward-Prowse, Leeta Rutherford hit a fantastic dead-ball to retake the lead and secure a place in the next round of the FA Women's National League Cup at Snows Stadium against MK Dons.
A curling effort that nestled in the top corner and left Dons keeper Chloe Sansom with no chance.
Georgie Freeland vs Crawley
Another FA Women's National League Cup goal, another wonderful hit - this time from Georgie Freeland. The perfect definition of 'top bins' from the young midfielder.
Receiving a long ball forward from Pharoah just outside the box, Freeland looks like she's going to take on her player, but instead unleashes an unstoppable rising shot across the goal and into the top corner.
Megan Collett vs Cardiff City
Megan Collett has been an impact player when coming into the the first team setup throughout the season, and her goal against Cardiff City is the perfect example of what she can do.
Collett latched onto a long ball forward from Leeta Rutherford, using her first touch to knock it past the Cardiff defender, before outpacing her and slipping the ball past the keeper and into the bottom corner. The perfect way to end the regular season!
