Hasenhüttl: Far away from how we can play

Unable to build on last weekend’s win over Arsenal, manager Ralph Hasenhüttl was left disappointed by his side’s performance as Saints slumped to a 2-0 defeat at Burnley.

First half goals from Connor Roberts and Nathan Collins earned the Clarets an important three points in their bid to beat the drop in the Premier League, leaving the visitors in 13th.

Finding consistency hard to come by, Hasenhüttl delivered an honest assessment at full-time.

"If we score the first goal, the game is a different one and they must risk a little bit more and we have a little bit more space, but when they score first it’s always tough to break them down, and then you need quality and braveness on the ball and on both we were lacking today.

“We had a big chance in the beginning, not scoring the goal and then with the first chance for them, conceding the first goal.

“After this goal, we haven’t been there in the first half. In possession not great, duels, we lost every one, I think, in the first half.

“It was far away from what we can play and after half-time it was a little bit better. We had two big chances but didn’t score and they defended with everything they had in the end and deserved to win.

“We’re fragile sometimes, our mood, I think. And this is not understandable for me.”
