Southampton FC Women are looking to make the quarter-finals of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup for the first time this weekend, travelling to league rivals Ipswich Town on Sunday.

After a deserved, but hard-fought, victory over Championship side Bristol City in the last round, Saints face a far more familiar foe in Sunday’s fifth-round tie.
Going head-to-head in the National League Southern Premier, alongside a prior meeting at Goldstar ground in the National League cup, Saints and Ipswich will now face each other for the third of four possible meetings this season.
Ipswich booked their place in the next round with a victory at National League Division One North side Newcastle United, Lucy O’Brien netting the only goal on Tyneside.

Supporters can get behind Marieanne Spacey-Cale’s side with a supporter’s coach leaving St Mary’s at 7.30am – seats are priced at a £20 return with parking available at St Mary’s for the day.

PREVIOUS MEETINGS
The two sides battling it out for promotion from National League Southern Premier this season have met twice already this season – once in the League Cup and the other in search of three points domestically.
Lucia Kendall’s 79th minute winner secured progression in the League Cup at the start of November, as Marieanne Spacey-Cale’s side battled to a narrow 1-0 victory at Goldstar ground.
Just two weeks later the sides met again, this time in front of a bumper crowd at Snows Stadium in league action.
Unfortunately things didn’t go to plan for the hosts, with the Tractor girls coming away from the south coast with a 2-0 victory. The first league defeat in over two years for Spacey-Cale’s side.
MANAGER’S NOTES
“They’re one off games,” said Spacey-Cale. “For this one we have a quarter-final place at stake and it’s between two teams in tier three.
“Both us and Ipswich will be looking at that thinking ‘can we be that tier three team that breaks the mould and shows the quality of the clubs in our division?’
“We’ve got to go in with a positive mindset and be as well prepared as we can be.”
