U18 Report: Saints 1-2 Crystal Palace

Things did not start well for Saints, who conceded a penalty inside the opening ten minutes to their visitors.

David Omilabu stepped up and made no mistake on eight minutes to give Palace to lead.

Saints responded just over ten minutes later; Goran Babic, who is really starting to find his scoring touch at the club, making the most of a defensive mix-up to curl home the equaliser.

The remaining big chances of the half fell to the hosts as they looked to rectify their early set-back; Sam Bellis finding space after some head tennis in the Palace box but only able to drill his shot wide.

Following the break the visitors began to grow in terms of dominance, Will Tizzard doing tremendously well for Saints by blocking an effort just inside the penalty area just shy of the hour mark.

Ollie Wright was also kept busy during the second half, making a strong save down to his left-hand side in the 71st minute as Palace continued to press.

With ten minutes remaining Saints also looked likely to grab a winner; Marco Rus looking dangerous from the flank as he looked to create an opening.

But, cruelly with the last kick of the game, Palace scored their second as the clock ticked past the 92nd minute mark; Omilabu beating the offside trap to tap in from a square ball with the last kick of the game.

The result means Saints are still looking for their first win of the season and remain 12th in the division, whilst Palace move up to sixth after winning what was their first game of the new campaign.
