Despite defeat, James Ward-Prowse is looking to take the positives from Southampton’s 5-2 loss at the hands of Tottenham at St Mary's Stadium on Sunday.
The hosts took the lead courtesy of Danny Ings, but four goals from Son Heung-min and a Harry Kane strike made Ings’s second of the afternoon late on nothing but a consolation.
Defeat leaves Saints still searching for their first win of the season, but Ward-Prowse was buoyed by aspects of the performance.
“We were really pleased with the way we played in the first half and I think we showed what we’re all about.
“We were energetic and created some good chances and maybe should’ve gone in a couple of goals up, but I think what killed us was conceding just before half time.

When you play against a team like Spurs you have to take your chances.
“That took our momentum and gave them a little bit of a boost, and equally conceding a goal so early in the second half gave them momentum to go on and win the game.
“When you play against a team like Spurs you have to take your chances and we didn’t take enough in the first half and their keeper made a few good saves.
“We can take the positives that we had a really good first half and we just need to continue that over the course of a game and tighten up defensively and I think we’ll be alright.
"It's still early on in the season. We've learnt a lot in the last couple of weeks and there's still a lot more positives we can take from today. we know going forward we can do better and can do more at both ends."
