It is only two months since Southampton kick-started a major resurgence with a 3-1 win at Aston Villa, but, as the teams prepare to meet once again this weekend, Ralph Hasenhüttl has explained how his players will be facing a very different opponent this time around.

Saints triumphed at Villa Park in their final game before Christmas, in what would be the start of an unbeaten six-game run that helped lift them away from trouble.

they changed their shape and now they play differently.

But, a little over eight weeks on, Hasenhüttl believes it will be a much-changed Villa team heading to St Mary's.

"It's a big, big, game," said the Saints boss, who will be hoping his side bounce back from last week's home defeat to Burnley. "They have had a good turnaround after our last game, when we won there in a good way, and then they changed their shape and now they play differently and are better organised.

"We will need every supporter, every voice, to get an atmosphere where they feel that it's very, very tough to get something here and this is what we try to create.

"We know what we have to look at, and the spaces that we have to use better than the last game. I think we had a few chances to score and didn't do it – being more clinical at home would be helpful and defensively we must be better organised for 90 minutes, because they also have quality in front and it's always dangerous."

Three points for Saints, who are currently on a total of 31, would move them another step closer to securing safety, and Hasenhüttl is keen to make sure they take the opportunities to get there as soon as they can.

"Everybody wants to be as quick as possible there, and then you can look for any other bonuses you may have," he said.

"We had a very good time over Christmas and now, after the last two games when we didn't play bad but didn't get points, we must find back how to win points again and we can do this also at home."
