Begin your week by getting up to speed with all the latest from St Mary's and Staplewood...

Saints fall to narrow Burnley defeat

Southampton couldn’t mark their return to Premier League action following the winter break with a win on Saturday as the Clarets came out on top.

Sean Dyche’s Burnley were the visitors at St Mary’s, with goals from Ashley Westwood and Matej Vydra enough to earn all three points.

Danny Ings notched his 18th of the season to cancel out Westwood’s early opener, but it wasn’t enough for Saints to get back to winning ways.

Be in that number this weekend

It’s back-to-back home games for Saints, who’ll look to bounce back on Saturday against Aston Villa at St Mary’s.

After recording a 3-1 win at Villa Park back in December, Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side will look to record the double over The Villains.

Tickets for the Premier League clash are now on general sale.

Under-23s battle in Blackburn

Southampton Under-23s picked up a point from their Premier League 2 battle at Blackburn on Friday night.

Looking to build on their win over Wolves last time out in the league, Dave Horseman’s side came from a goal down to take a 2-1 lead thanks to Will Ferry and Dan N’Lundulu strikes.

However, Jack Vale converted a late penalty for the hosts to force a share of the spoils.

Women thrash Exeter

Southampton FC Women continued their impressive National League form with a 6-0 win at Exeter on Sunday.

Back in league action following three successive cup outings, Marieanne Spacey-Cale’s side maintained top spot with a comfortable display.

A Shannon Albuery hat-trick did most of the damage, with Ella Pusey, Rachel Panting and Shannon Sievwright adding further strikes.
