Get up to speed on all the latest developments at St Mary's and Staplewood, as Southampton ready themselves for a return to Premier League action after the winter break...

Saints use winter break to recharge

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhüttl felt the winter break came at a good time for his players, giving them the opportunity to recharge their batteries.

Saints were very unfortunate to exit the FA Cup in last week’s fourth-round replay at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, in which they outplayed the hosts for long periods and led 2-1 in the closing stages.

Hasenhüttl admitted his team “were not fresh” and hopes to rediscover that sharpness for Saturday’s 12.30pm GMT kick-off against Burnley at St Mary’s in the Premier League.

Trio of home games on general sale

Three of Saints’ next four Premier League games will take place at St Mary’s, and all three are now on sale to all supporters.

First up is the visit of Burnley on Saturday, before Saints play host to Aston Villa on Saturday 22nd February (kick-off 3pm GMT).

After the trip to West Ham at the end of February, Newcastle make the long journey to the south coast to take on Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side on Saturday 7th March (kick-off 3pm GMT).

Mixed fortunes for Under-23s

Southampton Under-23s picked up a vital three points in Premier League 2 last Monday, but fell to defeat in the Premier League Cup on Friday night.

A late header from defender Oludare Olufunwa snatched victory over Wolves at Staplewood to boost Saints’ survival hopes.

Yan Valery made his return from a viral infection at Nottingham Forest, where Kornelius Hansen was on target, but Dave Horseman’s side were beaten 2-1 in Derbyshire.

The young Saints are back in league action on Friday night, when they travel to Blackburn (kick-off 7pm GMT).

Women take derby bragging rights

Southampton FC Women progressed to the semi-finals of the Women’s National League Cup with a 2-0 win at local rivals Portsmouth.

Ella Pusey struck both goals in the first half, profiting from assists by Ella Morris and Alisha Ware.

Marieanne Spacey-Cale’s team were unable to continue their winning momentum in the league, as Sunday’s home clash with Swindon was postponed due to Storm Ciara.

Saints support Heads Up campaign

Southampton Football Club will be showing its support for the Heads Up campaign at Saturday’s game against Burnley, as we unite with teams across the country to kick-off a conversation about mental health.

At games both this weekend and next, clubs will be supporting the initiative in a wide variety of ways, to highlight the power of talking as a way to support one another.

Ahead of our dedicated game against Burnley, representatives from Saints Foundation attended the launch of the Heads Up Weekends, joining HRH The Duke of Cambridge at an event in London on Time To Talk Day.
