Saints denied Arsenal victory late on

Southampton fell agonisingly short of picking up a big three points on Saturday, after hosts Arsenal scored a last-gasp equaliser to draw 2-2 at the Emirates Stadium.

Ralph Hasenhüttl’s men twice took the lead in north London, through Danny Ings and James Ward-Prowse, and had chances to put the game to bed in the closing stages.

Instead the Gunners conjured an equaliser deep into stoppage time, as Alexandre Lacazette struck his second of the day.

Block 43 open for Watford and Norwich double-header

Next up are two home games against teams in the relegation zone, giving Saints a significant chance of improving their league position going into the busy festive season.

First up is the visit of bottom-of-the-table Watford, on Saturday 30th November (kick-off 5.30pm GMT), before Norwich come to St Mary’s on Wednesday 4th December (kick-off 7.30pm GMT).

Block 43 is open to Saints supporters for the two games, with both matches on general sale.

Women claim cup scalp

Southampton FC Women upset higher league opposition with an impressive 2-1 victory at Yeovil Town, after extra time, in the FA National League Cup.

Despite falling behind to the Glovers in the first half, Saints responded through Ella Pusey’s 48th-minute leveller and hit the woodwork twice in search of a winner.

Eventually Sophia Pharoah made the breakthrough after 100 minutes of action with a cool finish to secure Saints’ progress.

Mixed week for young Saints

Southampton Under-23s fell to a 1-0 defeat at Arsenal in Premier League 2 on Saturday.

Striker Tyreece John-Jules scored the only goal of the game shortly before half time, and later saw a penalty saved by Saints keeper Tommy Scott.

Saints’ youngsters were 3-0 winners over the Royal Navy to ensure a safe passage in the Hampshire Senior Cup, with Sean Brennan, Mikey Saunders and Callum Watts on target.

Youth Cup opponents confirmed

Saints Under-18s will face a trip to Bristol Rovers in the third round of this season's FA Youth Cup.

Paul Hardyman's side slipped to a 3-2 defeat to Liverpool in the Under-18 Premier League Cup at Staplewood on Saturday.

The Reds snatched a stoppage-time winner after goals from Mikey Saunders and Roland Idowu had Saints on course to take a point.

Internationals braced for Euro 2020 draw

The draw for Euro 2020 will take place on Saturday 30th November, with plenty of interest within the Saints squad.

Jan Bednarek and Pierre-Emile Højbjerg helped Poland and Denmark secure automatic qualification respectively, while the likes of Stuart Armstrong, Shane Long and Michael Obafemi are still hoping to be involved in the play-offs.

Twenty of the 24 nations to compete at the final tournament are already decided, with the remaining four spots to be decided next March.
