James Ward-Prowse, who made his 250th club appearance against Arsenal on Saturday afternoon, was pleased with what he described as a 'confidence building' performance at Emirates Stadium, despite not taking all three points.
Saints twice led against Unai Emery's side, with form difficult to come by of late, but were pegged back by an Alexandre Lacazette brace - the equaliser arriving deep into second-half stoppage time.
Irrespective of the result, the midfielder was happy that Saints went toe-to-toe with the Londoners, and explained how the manner of the display will serve as a positive heading into a crucial run of games.
"We dominated the game, although we didn't have a lot of the ball," Ward-Prowse reflected. "We put them under pressure and you could feel around the stadium the effect we were having on the game.
"Unfortunately, we weren't clinical enough in the last 20 minutes to put the game to bed.
"We were brave out of possession, we pressed high and wanted to be on the front foot. We certainly caused them problems, but obviously we're kicking ourselves after conceding so late.
"We have to try and win our home games as well, because that will be key to us staying in this league.
"It's a building block for us, to kick on from here. We have winnable games coming up, so it's an exciting time.
"In the position we are, people might mistake us as timid, or not up for the fight, but you could see against Arsenal that we have confidence in ourselves to play the way we want to play."
