Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhüttl feels his side must take the positives from their brave performance at Arsenal, despite the hosts levelling late on to snatch a draw in the Premier League.

Saints twice led in the capital, with Danny Ings netting inside the opening ten minutes before Alexandre Lacazette’s equaliser before the break.

Creating the better chances – and guilty of not adding more to their tally – the visitors finally retook the lead through James Ward-Prowse, before Lacazette struck deep into stoppage time to salvage a point for Unai Emery’s side.

Despite surrendering the additional two points, Hasenhüttl sees the performance as a new benchmark for Saints.

The manager said: “In general I’m positive because we showed a different face today. It was brave, energetic and an unbelievably committed performance. We believed in what we can do and that we can win this game.

“Also, after the equaliser, I saw my team playing forward looking for the second goal and we had chances for four, five goals today and this was a completely different performance.

“Sure, the three points would be perfect, but we must look for the positive moments today and not be too disappointed about losing two points in the end.

“I think everybody knows now that it’s the only way to play, like we did today, and the chance to take points in the Premier League comes if you work like this and everybody did a fantastic job.

“We changed the shape and were offensively orientated and substituted offensively and we had big, big chances to make the third goal.

“In the end it's only one point, but it feels like a win for me because after the last two weeks, it’s important that we had a positive feeling.”
