Ralph Hasenhüttl is determined to see his Southampton players reward the club’s loyal support, with a sold-out away end ready to roar on Saints against Arsenal on Saturday.
The travelling fans snapped up the club’s full 3,000 allocation for the Premier League clash at the Emirates Stadium, as both teams return to action after the international break.
Now Hasenhüttl wants to deliver a performance on the pitch to earn a positive result ahead of a sequence of matches against teams close to his side in the table.
“It’s a tough game. Going there to win is not easy, but we have shown a few good performances in away games so far and we are followed by 3,000 fans again, so they are still trusting and believing in us,” the boss said.
“For us, it’s a very important signal every time, to know they are following us and supporting us.
“It’s a special atmosphere in every away game and we enjoy it very much – to work for them and to celebrate with them if we take something. Hopefully we can give them a good weekend.
“We have to show them that we can go there and be as brave as we were against Man City to take something. With a good performance, anything is possible.
“We’ve tried to get back a few basic fundaments to our game and the guys have followed well over these two weeks, but now they have to show up.
“A fast start always helps. I think we have shown we can score in away games and be competitive. This is a good chance to show it again.”
