Maya Yoshida made his 100th appearance for Japan in their 2-0 World Cup qualifying win over Kyrgyzstan on Thursday.

The Saints defender once again captained the Samurai Blue, as goals from Takumi Minamino and Genki Haraguchi ensured their 100% start to qualification continued.

With four wins from four, Hajime Moriyasu’s side sit six points ahead of second-placed Kyrgyzstan, as they pause their Group F qualification hopes.

Returning to Japan, Yoshida will be in line for his 101st appearance as Venezuela visit for a friendly on Tuesday.

Completing an unbeaten day of competition was Moussa Djenepo, as Mali began their Africa Cup of Nations group stage qualifier with a 2-2 draw against Guinea.

Back in the international fold after returning to fitness at the beginning of the month, the winger made a quick impact off the bench.

Playing the final 25 minutes, Djenepo’s weaving run from the left resulted in a deflected shot that was fired in on the rebound by Sékou Koïta, before the visitors levelled late on.

Next up, Mali head to Chad on Sunday looking for a first group stage win.
