Southampton Football Club is pleased to confirm that young midfielder Callum Slattery has signed a two-year contract extension, keeping him at St Mary’s until June 2022.
Slattery, 20, made his Premier League debut during Saints’ 2-1 victory over Leicester City last season, becoming the fifth Academy graduate to make a senior bow under manager Ralph Hasenhüttl.
Appearances in the FA Cup followed, before he was rewarded with his first 90 minutes of top flight football in the 1-1 draw with Burnley in early February.
The former England youth international was also an instrumental part of the club’s promotion winning Under-23s side last term, featuring heavily in Saints’ Premier League 2 play-off winning campaign.
Having spent more than a decade at Southampton, Slattery explained why he feels like St Mary’s is where he belongs, and what he aims to achieve over the next 12 months.
“It's a club I've been at since I was eight years old so it's always nice to put pen to paper and extend my stay,” he commented.
“It's somewhere that I would call home and the club means a lot to me. It's a club that I want to play at for a long time.
“Once you get a few dips in the first-team and begin learning off the players and manager, all you want is more.
“The manager has bought back the club's philosophy; young players getting a chance to make a statement and show that they're capable of playing at that level.
“Chances don't come around often so when they do you have to grab them with both hands and that’s what I intend to do.”
