Ralph Hasenhüttl was pleased to see some of his training methods put into action as Southampton ran out 3-1 winners over Preston at Deepdale.
Danny Ings scored twice in the first half as Saints recorded a deserved victory in the club’s second pre-season friendly of the summer.
Youngster Jake Vokins arrived off the bench to complete the scoring, leaving the boss satisfied with the way his players have put preparation into practice.
“I think it was a good test for us – an intense game,” Hasenhüttl said.
“The guys showed that over the last two weeks we have worked on a few things, and we could see a few of those topics today, so it was a good test for us.
“I think we could’ve scored a few more – I counted six or seven in the first half – but that’s not the most important thing today.
“The most important thing and the topic of the week was the transition to the offensive, and I think we had a few good ball wins and good transitions.
“I must say the guys are working hard and I’m enjoying every day working with them.
“I am happy. The level we are at the moment is exactly where I expect us to be, but we still have a few weeks to go. There is still hard work to do.”
