THE MATCH
Preston North End vs Saints
Pre-season friendly
Deepdale
Saturday 20th July (3pm BST)
SETTING THE SCENE
Saints head to Deepdale having kicked off their pre-season with a 1-1 draw with Austrian Bundesliga side SCR Altach, following a productive week-long training camp.
Che Adams got off the mark inside two minutes to give Ralph Hasenhüttl’s men an early lead, which was cancelled out before the break by an explosive effort from Manfred Fischer.
With the Championship season a mere fortnight away, hosts Preston North End have already had four friendlies, recording victories against Bamber Bridge, Cork City, AFC Fylde and Chorley to date.
Last season, Alex Neil’s side went on a run of eight wins during 12 unbeaten games at the turn of the year, which put them well in contention for a play-off spot. However, their end of season form saw them slip away and finish 14th.
The Lilywhites have made two additions to their squad so far this summer, with German defender Patrick Bauer making the move from Charlton after turning down a new deal and David Nugent re-signing for the club.
