A rampant Southampton Under-23s performance warranted plenty of praise from boss Radhi Jaïdi in the aftermath of their 6-2 demolition of Notts County in the Premier League Cup.

There was plenty of quality on show, not least from Saints' frontline, with Tyreke Johnson, Dan N'Lundulu and Josh Sims all claiming a brace of goals each on the night.

The victory gives Saints a fighting chance of qualification to the competition's knockout phases, but doesn't secure it, as they await the result of Group H's final fixture between Leeds and Newcastle.

Despite that, Jaïdi was impressed by the application of his players, and picked out a few for special mention.

"Tyreke [Johnson] had a standout game, and Josh Sims, who has been away for a period was excellent," he commented.

"I also can't deny Dan N'Lundulu who has come back from a long-term injury with two good goals. I couldn't ask for more. I think the boys did everything they could have tonight.

"We've had two games this week and that was a perfect way to end it.

"The goals are great; they came from the work on the training ground. The areas we've worked on all week, exploiting space in behind, you could see that tonight.

"There's always things to work on but six goals, and hopefully that keeps the confidence and spirit high."
