Young forward Michael Obafemi put pen to paper on a new Southampton contract and reflected on a whirlwind 12 months, after making his first-team breakthrough against Tottenham in January of last year.
Since then, the 18-year-old has made a further six senior appearances, scored his first Premier League goal – in December's 3-1 win at Huddersfield – and made his debut for Ireland's national side.
His rapid rise has been capped by him signing a new three-and-a-half-year contract at Saints, which runs until the summer of 2022, with Obafemi hopeful of many more appearances to come in the club's red and white.
"It's been a whirlwind," the teenager began. "Obviously, I scored my first goal and then got injured. But now I'm back fit, I'm working hard to get back in the team.

"I'm thankful to the previous manager for giving me my debut. I'll always remember that day; it was the first time the world got to see me. And hopefully they'll see a lot more of me.
"I'd say my first goal was one of the proudest days of my life. It's something that I've dreamed of doing, but I can't stop there. There's half a season left to go and hopefully I can keep growing and get some more goals.
"There's a home game next week against Fulham and if that's the day [that I score my first St Mary's goal], then that's the day. But if not, I keep working hard until it does come."
On signing his new deal, Obafemi added: "It's a good day. I'll always be thankful to the club for sticking by me, and I just want to show everyone what I've got.
"I'm determined to show the fans and everyone at the club why I've been given a three-and-a-half year deal."
