Ralph Hasenhüttl has reflected on an encouraging week at Staplewood Campus ahead of Saturday's trip to Leicester City in the Premier League.

For the first time since before Christmas, the Saints boss had a clear week to work with his players on the training pitch and he took full advantage of the opportunity, as he prepared the squad for another busy period ahead, beginning with the visit to King Power Stadium

"It was good that we could take the time now to prepare the guys with more training sessions," said Hasenhüttl. "I think we are well prepared.

"It's absolutely clear that we used this week now and this time we had to prepare for these next games.

"We showed that we also can give good performances in the rhythm of three days a game, and that will be necessary in the next weeks, because we have now this Derby game on Wednesday and then an important game against Everton at home.

"It's then about being focused and trying to recover very well after the game – not so much chance to take in good training sessions, but we did that this week and that is important."

Hasenhüttl also had the opportunity this week to work with a few of the club's youngsters who had returned from loan spells, including Josh Sims following the end of his time at Reading.

"Simsy for example was part of the training and showed that he has a few qualities that can maybe be interesting for us also," said Hasenhüttl.

"We will have a look. The next two or three weeks we have time to decide what will happen with the guys."
