Kick-start your week with our Monday Briefing, as we bring you up to speed on the latest events at Southampton Football Club...

Unbeaten run comes to an end

Southampton’s unbeaten run was halted at three matches, as Liverpool won 3-0 at Anfield on Saturday.

An own goal from Wesley Hoedt was followed by further efforts from Joel Matip and Mohamed Salah before half-time, as the Reds continued their perfect start to the season at the expense of Mark Hughes’s team.

Hughes said: “When you come to places like this you've got to remain in the game and be resolute. We had moments where we had good opportunities just to really pressure and stop momentum building and a couple of times we got the fundamentals of defending a little bit wrong.”

Carabao Cup draw coming up

The draw for the fourth round of the competition takes place at 9pm on Saturday, with Saints in the hat.

Mark Hughes’s side don’t play their third-round game, away at Everton, until next week, so both sides will go into the match knowing who awaits the winner in the last 16.

The draw takes place on the EFL Cup’s highlights programme, on Quest, but don’t worry if you can’t watch – we’ll bring you news on southamptonfc.com, as well as on Twitter.

Women advance in FA Cup

Marieanne Spacey-Cale’s team beat New Milton 5-0 at AFC Totton on Sunday to advance past the second qualifying round of the SSE Women’s FA Cup.

Under-18s back to winning ways

Paul Hardyman’s youngsters produced an accomplished display on Saturday, as they beat Brighton & Hove Albion 1-0 in the Under-18 Premier League, at Staplewood Campus.

It was a first victory of the season for the Under-18s and it was a fully-deserved one too, coming via Enzo Robise’s free-kick just after the hour mark.

Under-23s’ run comes to an end

It had to happen at some point! The Under-23s finally saw their unbeaten run come to an end, as they lost 1-0 at home to Aston Villa in Premier League 2 on Friday night.

Radhi Jaïdi’s side, who enjoyed a storming start to the season, winning five and drawing two of their opening seven matches, deserved something from the encounter at Staplewood Campus, but lost out to a late Jack Clark goal.

Watch the pick of the action below with our highlights…

Premier League International Cup action on the agenda

The Under-23s have a chance to quickly bounce back from the disappointment of the Villa game when they host Porto on Wednesday night in the Premier League International Cup.

Saints beat Dinamo Zagreb 1-0 in their opening group fixture and will be hoping to make it six points from six when the Portuguese side visit Staplewood.

You won’t miss a kick with us either, as we’ll be bringing you live coverage of the match, which kicks off at 7pm BST.
