Harrison Reed struck his first goal of the season as Blackburn held on to defeat Stoke in a five-goal thriller over the weekend.

Rovers took the lead when Bradley Dack slid in from close range before Danny Graham converted Elliott Bennett’s long ball to double the advantage.

Reed made it three on his first Blackburn start, rolling the ball under Jack Butland from Dack’s cut-back.

Stoke rallied through Saido Berahino's bundled effort and Tom Ince but fell short of finding an equaliser despite mustering 17 attempts on goal.

Elsewhere in the Championship, Josh Sims played a key role in Reading securing their first win home victory since April while Sam McQueen replaced Stewart Downing for the final 17 minutes of Middlesbrough's 0-0 draw with Swansea.

Sims featured for the full 90 minutes as the Royals ran out 3-0 winners against Nigel Adkins’s Hull thanks to goals from Sam Baldock, Jon Dadi Bodvarsson and Andy Yiadom.

Alfie Jones was an unused substitute in St Mirren’s 3-0 loss to Hamilton while Jake Hesketh and Jake Flannigan remained out of action following the postponement of Burton Albion’s meeting with Barnsley.

Further down the pyramid, Harrison Davis and Tiverton Town advanced to the Third Qualifying Round of the Emirates FA Cup following a 2-0 win over Dorchester Town who were without fellow Saints loanee Kingsley Latham. Full-back Davis was withdrawn seven minutes from full-time.

In the Netherlands, Jordy Clasie started and completed Feyenoord’s 1-0 success over Utrecht in the Eredivisie.

Robin van Persie struck three minutes from time to keep them in third, five points behind leaders PSV who have made a perfect start to the season.

In the tier below, Ryan Seager was a late substitute in Telstar’s 3-1 against FC Twente, a result which sees them sit in 14th place after six league matches.

Striker Guido Carrillo could not prevent Leganes from slipping to a 1-0 defeat at Eibar as they remained winless in La Liga. Kike’s effort just after half time sealed the points for the hosts. There was more action to be found in Galicia where Sofiane Boufal's Celta Vigo drew 3-3 with Real Valladolid, the Moroccan playing 69 minutes for his team.
