Two goals in as many starts since a sending off against Leicester have reasserted Pierre-Emile Højbjerg’s claim to a regular starting berth in the Southampton midfield.
The Dane’s stunning long-range drive was the standout moment at St Mary’s on Monday night, a goal that crowned another all-action performance.
Speaking after the draw with Brighton on Monday night, Saints boss Mark Hughes hailed Højbjerg’s response to bounce back and deliver two commanding showings for his team.

“Credit to him, he’s bounced back very well,” he said. “He got himself sent off against Leicester and he was upset about that. He’s come back with two great performances and two great goals.
“He’s working really hard for the team. He’s giving us that physical presence in the middle, he’s able to get around the pitch and the goals are an added bonus too, hopefully they will continue.”
