Højbjerg reacts to Brighton draw

Pierre-Emile Højbjerg was left extremely disappointed after Saints were forced to settle for a point against Brighton at St Mary’s.

A stunning strike from Højbjerg lit the blue touch paper, before Danny Ings’s penalty looked to have sealed back-to-back Premier League wins.

But Shane Duffy’s reply just 129 seconds after the second and a late Glenn Murray penalty saw the lead slip away.

“First of all, we are very disappointed. When you’re 2-0 up at home against Brighton you have to go through with it and get the win,” Højbjerg began.

“I think for a big part of the game we did that and I think we’re still growing as a team. Until the end it was a good night to be a Southampton supporter and player.

“When you want to be serious and be up there with something to play for in the Premier League, you cannot let games like this go away. We need to work on that because it cannot happen.

“Maybe there is some nervousness from last year when we’re on the back foot where we are afraid of losing. We need to stay on the front foot.”
