We take a look at the career of Southampton’s third summer signing, goalkeeper Angus Gunn...

Born in Norwich, 22-year-old Gunn arrives on the South Coast with a reputation as one of England’s brightest young goalkeeping talents.

Having started out with his hometown club where his father Bryan also kept goal during his playing days, he was soon spotted by reigning Premier League champions Manchester City, making the move in 2011.

In Manchester, he played a key part in their Academy teams, helping them reach the quarter-finals of the UEFA Youth League and winning the 2014/15 Under-18 title.

During the 2016/17 campaign, Gunn would primarily train and travel with the first team group and feature on the bench, as well as making five starts for their Under-23s.

In the last campaign, his first senior season was during a loan spell with Norwich City, where he enhanced his burgeoning reputation by being an ever-present.

His senior debut came away at Fulham, before a first clean sheet in August during a 2-0 home success over QPR.

On the international scene, he has represented England at all major international levels from Under-16s through the Under-21s.

In 2016, he helped the Under-21s to win the Toulon Tournament, a side captained by James Ward-Prowse and also including Matt Targett, Nathan Redmond and Jack Stephens.

Having featured in the Under-21s squad during the European Championships in Poland, he earned his first senior call in November 2017 following Jack Butland’s withdrawal through injury.
