Fleming: Much improved

Under-18s coach Craig Fleming has praised his youngsters confident performance in the aftermath of their 2-1 success against Aston Villa at Staplewood.

The hosts were a goal down early on, but rallied well to overturn the deficit before half time, with goals coming from Harrison Davis and Enzo Robise.

The attacking display in particular was pleasing for Fleming, who was frustrated after his young side were unable to convert against Arsenal midweek, but more than made up for that with two fine finishes today.

"We were pretty solid," Fleming said, assessing Saints' performance. "Went a goal down against the run of play, but responded superbly - scoring straight from kick-off.

"I thought we had the game under control. Three games in a week, so the boys are slightly jaded but another positive result.

"We've got some pace in our forward line, caught Villa on the counter quite often. If we were a bit more clinical we could have put the game to bed, but much improved. Overall I thought the performance was really positive.

Reserving special mention for Under-18s debutante goalkeeper, Jack Bycroft, he added: "Jack did very well. Everyone at the club knows what a prospect he is, so it's good to be able to give him some minutes for the 18s and I'm looking forward to working with him next year!"
