Southampton were held to a 1-1 draw with Tottenham in the Under-18s Premier League, but nonetheless, the deadlock serves to prolong the youngsters' impressive unbeaten streak.
Now standing at seven games, Butterfield's side haven't been defeated in the league since mid-October, but were made to work manfully for a share of the points today.
While acknowledging that his side were forced to modify their typical approach to a game, conceding much of the possession, Butterfield was pleased with the young Saints' ability to adapt.
"It was a tough game against a strong side, but the boys carried out the game plan perfectly," Butterfield commented.
"Unfortunately the penalty meant we've come unstuck, but I think the attitude, application and discipline was all spot on. It was a different performance, to sit and slide, and work on the counter attack.
"It was a great goal and a chink to Kayne's armour, a goal-scoring centre-half, but as a whole our defensive organisation was most pleasing.
"The boys defended the goal particularly well, and our final third in general. We finished the game with a very young side, and our first year scholars are gaining valuable experience."
