Teenage forwards Michael Obafemi and Jonathan Afolabi are determined to prove what they're capable of, ahead of Southampton's FA Youth Cup trip to face Blackpool.

Having enjoyed a promising run of recent scoring form, both Irish youth internationals spoke about the growing relationship they have formed on the pitch, and the importance of their tight-knit team unit.

"The boys have a tight bond, and we like to back each other, whatever situation we face," Obafemi said.

"Everything is going well in the first half of the season, we'd like to push on and see how far we can go - as individuals and as a team. A couple of goals have boosted my confident a lot," Afolabi added.

After netting his twelfth of the season in the comeback win over West Ham last weekend, Obafemi is understandably pleased with his form, but insistent that there is more to come.

He commented: "Obviously I am happy with my goal tally, twelve goals for the season. It's a good start, but now I'm looking forward to getting more and kicking on.

"Some would compare us to... [laughter]. We're really tight on and off the pitch, we help one another out a lot. We're probably not as selfish as maybe we would be."

Afolabi finished by talking about their FA Youth Cup expectations, and the desire to compete and progress in a Southampton shirt: "It is a mixture of emotions.

"We know what to expect going up north, it will be physical. We'll have to fight for everything and earn our place.

"It would mean a lot to win it, this is our last year as Under-18s players so we'd like to go as far as possible. We've got to prove what we can do for the club."
