After a first start of the season against Bournemouth, Jérémy Pied is keen to seize his chance in the Saints first team with both hands.
The Frenchman produced a strong performance in his first full 90 minutes of action in the Premier League this season and may well be a key figure for Saints throughout a busy Christmas period.
Sunday's stalemate marked a positive step for Pied who is looking forward to staking a claim for the right-sided berth left vacant by the injury of Cédric Soares.
“I tried to give my best against Bournemouth and to play a smart game, not just pushing forwards all the time but also concentrating on my defending. It was a good step for me and I am looking forward to continuing in the team."
Inspiration came close to home from team-mate Pierre-Emile Højbjerg whose strong showing against Everton the previous weekend demonstrated that opportunities will come to all members of the Saints squad if they are ready to make the step up.
“It is not easy being on the sidelines but as a member of this squad, it is your job to support the team in whatever way you can. Pierre showed the perfect example against Everton: you come in, you play and you take your chance.”
