It was a mixed afternoon for Southampton’s Jérémy Pied on Sunday afternoon: the full-back produced a solid performance in his first Premier League start of the season, despite Saints sharing the points with Bournemouth.
After a "sloppy" first-half performance, Saints regrouped after in the interval, equalised through Charlie Austin and, for Jérémy, perhaps ought to have gone on to win the game at the Vitality Stadium.
“We showed a good reaction after the break and played with a better attitude and created more chances.
“The points could have gone either way today. We were poor in the first half, particularly the way we conceded the first goal which was really avoidable.”
Austin struck just after the hour to get the visitors back into contention and Pied believes that from that moment, Saints showed a level of performance that needs to be carried forward in the coming weeks.
“This is the Premier League, a derby, so it was important that we showed some character in the second half. We are frustrated, and rightly so, because we wanted a better result than a draw. Our performance in the second half was strong and that is the kind of level we need to keep going forward.
“Charlie’s equaliser was well deserved and we could have gone on to get all three points in the end.”
