Under-18s coach Danny Butterfield has praised his young side after they recorded a comprehensive away victory over Reading and a fourth clean sheet of the campaign.
Michael Obafemi added to his mounting goal tally with a brace, while Will Ferry notched his first goal of the season to cap a faultless Saints performance.
Ex-Southampton defender Butterfield was particularly pleased with the Under-18s application and resolve, after a first half stalemate.
"It was a close contest for an hour," Danny began. "It was a proper battle especially in the first half where there wasn't much between the two teams.
"We made it competitive and the boys were professional throughout, they were clinical second half when we got chances. All in all a good performance with a big improvement after Norwich.
"We spoke at half-time about the team staying in the game, remaining focussed, making professional decisions and we didn't allow them to play through us. Scored three good goals.
"Over the last five or six games we've kept our fair share of clean sheets and that's down to the team as a whole, being hard to play against. Forcing teams to play around us."
