Saints enjoyed an unbeaten start to their Premier League campaign during the month, with a 3-2 home win over West Ham United sandwiched in between 0-0 draws at home to Swansea City and away to Huddersfield.

After two clean sheets in three games, centre-backs Maya Yoshida and Jack Stephens, who claimed the last two awards of the 2016/17 season, are among the four-man shortlist.

Oriol Romeu, who won the prize on three occasions last month, has also enjoyed an impressive start to the new campaign and is also one of the nominees.

Rounding off the shortlist for August is club captain Steven Davis, who has turned in some strong performances in midfield.
