James Ward-Prowse felt Southampton stood up to the battle in their 0-0 draw away to Huddersfield Town yesterday.
Saints earned a point against a buoyant Terriers side, who have started their first Premier League season in sensational fashion, with the visitors going close to claiming a victory in the closing stages.
Ward-Prowse, who was introduced as a second-half substitute, felt the team showed a good bit of fight in Yorkshire.
"I think before the game we knew it was going to be a tough test, and we knew it wasn’t only going to be a football match but a battle as well,” he said.
"I think we stood up to the fight and it was important that we didn’t lose the game, even though I think we deserved to win it at the end.
"I think we’ve improved game by game and we showed our resilience. I think it’s important we carry on along that pathway and make sure that we keep doing the things that we’ve been doing.”
Ward-Prowse had an appeal for a penalty turned down late on, claiming he was tripped by Huddersfield’s Zanka.
"I cut inside and felt something on my left foot but it’s the referee’s decision at the end of the day and we had to obviously get on with the referee’s decision and make sure we focused on the last few minutes,” he added.
