Craig Fleming believes Southampton Under-18s are prepared and ready to kick-start their Under-18 Premier League campaign today.
The Saints youngsters host Leicester City at Staplewood and Fleming feels that their rigorous pre-season preparation will stand them in good stead.
“It’s obviously what you build up for throughout pre-season and play all those games for,” started the Under-18s manager.
“We had a good pre-season and played some really good games against strong opposition, but it’s never quite the same – it’ll be good to get going in the league programme again.”
“We’ve played against a number of under-19 teams and also RB Leipzig and Inter Milan, where we got a good draw, so it’s been good preparation.”
Southampton will one against compete in the Under-18 Premier League competition, meaning they will pit their wits against a number of familiar foes.
And having faced Leicester three times last term, Fleming is confident his side will know what kind of challenge awaits them.
“it’s always a difficult game,” he continued.
“Leicester tend to be quite a strong and physical team with high energy, so it is always a good challenge playing against them.
“I’ve seen bits of them this pre-season and they look very similar so I am sure it will be a good test for our boys.”
