Maya Yoshida was delighted to receive the Under Armour Player of the Month award for April from the Southampton supporters, but dedicated a portion of the prize to his centre-back partner, Jack Stephens.
The pair have blossomed together at the back since the departure of José Fonte and injury to Virgil van Dijk saw them paired at the heart of defence.
Yoshida was part of the side that kept three clean sheets and earned eight Premier League points during April, but he felt Stephens had every right to take the latest award too.
"I understand people compare between me and another player, like José or Virgil, but I think we have done very well with Jack. I think he deserves to get this prize as well," he said.
