Jack Stephens says the last two months have represented an enormously important experience for him, but he does not plan to fully reflect on it all until the end of the season.

The 23-year-old made his Premier League debut in the January 2nd trip to Everton and, since then, he has become a regular part of the first-team.

Stephens played a key role in Saints’ victory at Liverpool in the second leg of their EFL Cup semi-final, while going on to impress on the grand stage, at Wembley, against Manchester United.

In total, Stephens has made ten appearances in the past two months, starting eight games and forming an encouraging partnership with Maya Yoshida at centre-half.

While he has taken a lot from it, Stephens is keen to make sure he is focused on what still lies ahead.

"It's been a great experience for me to play in the last five or six games,” he said. “I've just got to make sure I keep trying to improve, keep trying to do my best for the team, and hopefully that will keep me in it.

“I've just got to keep learning. It's been a great experience and looking back at the end of the season I'll be proud about what I've done this year, but there's still 13 league games to go and I want to be involved in as many of them as possible.

"There's been some big games in the last few weeks and it's been a massive honour to be part of that.

“I've just tried to keep my head down and keep focused to be honest, because it's easy to start thinking about the big occasions and how big the game is, but I needed to just focus on what I was doing and make sure I was putting in a solid performance and hopefully I've done that.

"I need to just keep doing my best for the team, keep learning, and keep listening to the manager, the coaches and the experienced players around me and hopefully I can continue to develop.”

Expanding on the role some of the experienced members of the team have played in helping him, Stephens said: "They've all been excellent towards me since I've come into the team. They've all tried to help me and help me develop as a player.

“It's been very good playing alongside Maya, and Cédric to the right of me. It's been great, because they're experienced players and it's very good to learn off them.”
