Oriol Romeu reserved special praise for Southampton’s fans after Saints went close to completing a turnaround in the EFL Cup final against Manchester United.
The midfielder felt that the unwavering support from the stands was vital to the team’s spirited comeback in the contest, which came up just short at Wembley on Sunday.
“They were outstanding,” said Romeu.
“I think I’ve never felt that support before, and they made us come back in that way.
“We had another player on the pitch today because of them so we have to be very grateful to them for what they gave us in this game. That first comeback was because of them.”
