Claude Puel says the support from Southampton’s fans at Wembley was “crazy”.
Over 32,000 Saints fans sung their hearts out for 90 minutes, as they watched Puel’s men dominate Manchester United in the EFL Cup final at Wembley.
Though the day ended in heartbreak, as Zlatan Ibrahimvoic won the game for United in the closing stages, it was a proud day for everyone connected with the club.
And the Saints boss was also quick to praise supporters after the game.
“We are with a lot of disappointment for our fans, because they have been fantastic,” Puel told southamptonfc.com.
“They won the competition with the Manchester United fans. All of our support was fantastic – it was crazy!
“It’s a big disappointment for us of course, but they were amazing for this game to help all of the players on the pitch.
“They gave us everything without the good reward at the end.
“Now it’s important to keep up this kind of support for all of the Premier League games, so we can finish strong in the challenge ahead.”
