Jay Rodriguez believes the next few days could play an important part in Southampton's season.
Saints went into Christmas in seventh position in the Premier League, ahead of two upcoming home games, against Spurs tonight and then West Brom on Saturday.
Rodriguez believes it gives the team a good opportunity to continue to push on in the table.
"It's important. We've got a lot of games in a small period of time and things can change a lot, so I think it's important for us to get maximum points and hopefully that will stand us in good stead for the second half of the season," he said.
"Seventh at this point is a nice place to be. We know how quickly it can change as well, so I think these next games are really important for us, and hopefully we can do well."
Saints head into tonight's game in good form, having gone three unbeaten in the league, and Rodriguez himself is high on confidence following his two-goal display last time out, in the 3-1 win at AFC Bournemouth.
"It was good," he said. "Like I said, it was an important win for the lads and that's the main thing, but it was a good win, because Bournemouth are a great side and I think it was important for us to get those points.
"I'll try my best to do what I can when I get the opportunity and just get my head down and work hard."
