Southampton manager Claude Puel has challenged Jay Rodriguez to maintain his goal scoring form over the forthcoming schedule of games.
Rodriguez struck twice in Saints’ 3-1 win at AFC Bournemouth last time out, and will want to hold onto his place in the team when Tottenham visit St Mary’s on Wednesday night.
Boss Puel says he’s pleased for the striker to be back among the goals, but also wants him to contribute in other ways for the team.
“If he can continue with this confidence and score the same goals against Tottenham I will be happy of course,” said Puel.
“I think it’s important for Jay but for all the players because I want all these players like Jay to try different things.
“It’s important to surprise the opponents and for me it’s a big ambition to make the good dribble, assists, to try something.
“Everybody can make mistakes for the opponent and this is important.
“Sometimes with all these chances it’s important to become clinical and for Jay I hope he can continue this work and for Shane [Long] to find also this possibilities and for all the players.”
