Claude Puel says keeping his players fresh is still at the forefront of his thinking, as Southampton enter a busy month of domestic action.
Puel made eight changes to the side that started against Hapoel Be’er Sheva in the home victory over Middlesbrough.
And despite the exit from the UEFA Europa League, it is a policy that the Saints boss still feels is important to keep performance levels high.
Puel said: “You saw in the last game, we rotate with eight new players and if it was a bad result people might say it’s too much.
“I think it’s important because some player are tired with all these games so it’s difficult to play every three days.
“We showed in the last game that with fresh players we can react and give a good answer.
“This is very, very important.”
