Puel: Liverpool will be favourites

By SFC Media time Fri 02 Dec Carabao Cup

Claude Puel believes his team will be underdogs when they face Liverpool in the EFL Cup semi-finals, especially as they must play the second leg away from home.

Puel has guided his side into the last four of the competition, with Saints advancing past the quarter-final stage thanks to a 2-0 win away to Arsenal on Wednesday.

Their reward is a two-legged tie with the Reds, and, although Puel is delighted to reach this point, he would have preferred to be at home in the second leg, rather than the first.

"It's a pity I think for the second game to be away," he said. "Liverpool are normally the favourites for these games, but we will see.

"It was important to get past the winter period and keep qualifying, and we have done this, and we will now see in January what's happened.

"For the moment it's in the future. The objective for us was to qualify for the semi-finals for the second part of the season. That objective is done and now the important objective is a good result against Crystal Palace."
