Technical Director Martin Hunter was pleased to see Southampton Under-23s pick up a point against top-of-the-table Everton at Staplewood Campus.
But despite his side fighting back through Olufela Olomola after Oumar Niasse gave the visitors a first-half lead, he still felt there was room for improvement.
“I am very pleased to get a point, for obvious reasons,” Hunter started.
“But disappointed, particularly in the second half, with the performance. That’s not how we try and pass the ball.
“I thought our tempo was limited and there were far too many unforced errors in the second half.
“That’s something we will have to look at in the week and definitely work on before the cup game against Newcastle on Friday.”
Hunter spoke before the Premier League 2 fixture about the physical test the Toffees would pose his side.
And he was pleased with how the young Saints midfield dealt with the challenge.
“They are a very powerful team,” he continued.
“They also probably have the three best midfield players in this league, so our two youngsters in there have acquitted themselves very well.
“They made it very hard for us in the first 20 minutes but we grew into the game and finished the first half stronger.
“But then we spluttered in the second half and did okay in patches. So, as I said, there’s plenty to work on ahead of Friday.”
