Dušan Tadić admits he has found it tough being left out of the starting line-up in Southampton’s last four games, but says he is fighting hard to get back in.
Tadić came off the bench in the second half of Tuesday’s 2-0 defeat at AFC Bournemouth, while he was an unused substitute in the three matches before that.
Manager Ronald Koeman explained earlier this week that Tadić had partly been a victim of a change in system, but also challenged the playmaker to show his best form again.
Speaking to Southampton’s official YouTube channel, the 27-year-old explained that he is determined to do just that.
"Normally it's tough, because every player wants to play and you want always to be 90 minutes on the pitch,” he said. “Sometimes it's not possible. I work hard, I feel good. This is most important, and coach will decide when I need to play and when not, and that's it.
"I always fight very hard. This is not just now, but always. I think you never can relax in football, and even when everything is well you need to work even harder and also now.
“There are always moments in football where you sometimes play and sometimes not, but you always need to fight for yourself and to show your character and mentality, that you are always ready, and that is it.
“We will see. I don't decide when I'm going to play. Coach will decide and I will show him that I need to play.”
