Graziano Pellè will miss Saturday’s FA Cup third round match against Crystal Palace, but could be available for next Wednesday’s Premier League game against Watford.
The striker has missed the last three fixtures because of a knee injury, but is now getting closer to making a return.
“Graziano will not be involved this weekend, but we have good hope he will be ready for next Wednesday,” Saints manager Ronald Koeman told youtube.com/southamptonfc. “That will be good news.”
Koeman will be without midfielder Victor Wanyama for the next two matches, after he was dismissed for the second time this season, in last weekend’s defeat at Norwich.
The Saints boss explained he had spoken to Wanyama about what he believes was an “unnecessary” dismissal, but that he is satisfied with the options at his disposal in the Kenyan’s absence.
"That's always important that you have good competition in all the lines in your team, and we know with Jordy Clasie, with Oriol Romeu, with Prowsey, [Steven] Davis, Harry Reed who makes his first minutes last week, we have enough competition,” he said.
“Of course, we miss Wanyama, because he's a good player, he's a strong player, he's a physical one – what you need also against Crystal Palace. But the rest of the players that we have, they've showed their qualities and they've showed they can play, that's no problem.”
