Southampton will remember late owner Markus Liebherr ahead of today’s game against Everton – the first home match of the 2015/16 Barclays Premier League season.
Liebherr passed away five years ago this week, on 10th August 2010. The Swiss entrepreneur purchased Southampton the previous summer, rescuing the club from administration to start a journey that has seen it win at Wembley, climb from the third tier, establish itself in the Premier League and move to within touching distance of the UEFA Europa League group stage.
Ahead of today’s game, which kicks off at 12.45pm BST, a flag honouring Saints’ late owner funded by the club’s supporters will be unfurled on the pitch – its first appearance since the 2011 Markus Liebherr Memorial Cup game.
Fans’ messages posted on social media with the hashtag #ThankYouMarkus will be shown on the stadium screens, while a tribute book will be available to sign ahead of the match before being placed in the St Mary’s reception for the coming fortnight.
Supporters are advised to take up their seats well in advance of kick-off, with tributes to culminate at around 12.30pm.
There are still a limited number of tickets available for today’s game – you can book via tickets.saintsfc.co.uk, on 02381 780 780 or at the St Mary’s Ticket Office.
