Fonte: We must better Leicester's attitude

José Fonte says Southampton must match, or better, Leicester City’s attitude when they take on the Foxes at the King Power Stadium on Saturday.

Saints lost 2-1 to Sunderland last weekend who, along with Nigel Pearson’s side, are fighting against relegation from the Barclays Premier League.

Fonte is expecting more of the same on Saturday against a Leicester team who have enjoyed a run of form that has lifted them out of the bottom three thanks to 15 points from a possible 18.

Speaking to ahead of Saturday’s game, Fonte said: “They have won five out of the last six so we expect a very tough game and we need to be prepared for that.

“I’m expecting pretty much the same attitude as Sunderland had against us from Leicester on Saturday.

“Sunderland were at it and that’s something we need to match at least, if not have more than them. As long as we can do that I think we’ll win the game.

“We have been working hard on the training ground to put straight our disappointing away form this weekend and we want to get back to winning ways.”

Saints have won just one of their last six games away from home in the league and while Fonte recognises the need to arrest that form, he feels other factors have contributed to a frustrating run.

“This last game was disappointing, our performance wasn’t the best,” Fonte added. “That’s the truth and we can’t run away from that.

“We need to do much better but there were other factors as well that contributed to that. We’re not putting the blame on anyone.

“Together with a lot of factors it has been contributing to the lack of wins away but we want to put that right on Saturday.”
