THE MIXED ZONE: Duo on defeat to the Black Cats

Nathaniel Clyne and Steven Davis stopped to talk to the media after Southampton's 2-1 defeat to Sunderland in the Barclays Premier League on Saturday.

Here's what they had to say:

Steven Davis on a frustrating afternoon…

“We’ve just got to keep going until the end of the season. There’s still a lot of points to play for and we’ll just bounce back.

“I was on the bench (at the time of the second penalty) and it looked as if Defoe had taken a bad touch. But we are disappointed with the two penalties that we’ve managed to give away really.

“We knew they were going to be up for it before we came here, we knew they were going to do everything they could and they showed that. They pressed us well and I’m sure it was a big result for them.

“We know they’ve got a lot of quality players and players who can hurt you and we knew they were going to be fighting for their lives and were going to give their all and that proved to be the case.

“It was important to get a result and we’re disappointed not to get anything from the game. We have managed to put a few good runs together throughout the course of the season and hopefully we can do that again.

“It was just a disappointing result and performance.”

Nathaniel Clyne one a tough day at the office...

“We’re disappointed, obviously, with the result and how we gave away the two goals. We had a good game set-up to play and we didn’t really perform to the standards that we have done all season.

“I didn’t really see much of it (the second penalty), but the lads were saying that it wasn’t a penalty. We shouldn’t have really given the ball away and given the opportunity to get us on the counter attack.

“We’ve just got to push ourselves back up and get ready and prepare ourselves for the next game.”
