LOAN WATCH: Frustrating weekend for Saints loanees

By SFC Media time Mon 27 Apr Club

It was a frustrating penultimate weekend in the Football League for Southampton’s players out on loan.

Jack Stephens and Jordan Turnbull suffered disappointment on Saturday as they lost 3-0 to automatic promotion hopefuls Preston North End.

A hat-trick from Joe Garner was enough to win the game for Preston, leaving the Robins to settle for fourth spot in League 1 ahead of the play-offs.

Lloyd Isgrove played just over an hour as Sheffield Wednesday suffered a disappointing defeat to local rivals Leeds United this weekend.

A penalty from Chris Maguire gave Wednesday the lead, but goals from Charlie Taylor and Steve Morison earned Leeds the victory.

Jos Hooiveld played the full 90 minutes as Millwall blew a two-goal lead in their bid to avoid relegation from the Championship.

The Lions led 3-1 against Derby County at the Den, thanks to a hat-trick from Lee Gregory, but goals from Chris Martin and Jeff Hendrick earned the Rams a point. Tom Ince had earlier scored for Steve McClaren.

There was better news in the Premier League as Gaston Ramírez grabbed an assist as Hull City beat Crystal Palace to boost their survival chances.

Dame N’Doye grabbed both goals for Steve Bruce’s side, who moved up to 16th in the table thanks to the three points at Selhurst Park.

There was no action for Dani Osvaldo at the weekend, with Boca Juniors set to face River Plate in a top-of-the-table clash on Saturday.

Artur Boruc will be in action on Monday night when Bournemouth take on Bolton Wanderers looking to seal their place in the Premier League next season.
